West Mojave Aviation Archaeology It is our intention to record and preserve the histories of some of the most amazing aircraft and people ever to grace the California skies. Through the use of archaeological method, we will attempt to explain how several historic aircraft have met their ends. We do this for several reasons. First, this effort is our tribute to all who worked on these programs. Our highest regards go to those who lost their lives. Through this effort, we encourage all to examine the achievements of these brave people and try to gain something from their experiences. In this way, the contribution they made is still significant. Secondly, the physical scars these historic aircraft left on the surface of the Earth are fast disappearing. For nearly fifteen years, we have been surveying, photographing, and mapping sites. These efforts are intended to preserve the facts about the sites themselves. We will begin with a few aircraft that are quite historically noteworthy. Later we will add more intriguing stories about other aircraft that may have missed the historical limelight but have fascinating stories just the same. Keep in mind, this is a volunteer effort. We are, however, dedicated to giving you the most accurate archaeological accounts of these sites that we are able.
