Chance Vought Aircraft

Currently headquartered in Dallas, TX, Chance M. Vought co-founded his first company in 1917, becoming Chance Vought Corp. in 1922. Vought joined United Aircraft in 1935 and separated from UAC in 1954. Vought became a subsidary of Northrop Grumman in 1992, and became an independent company again in 2001 as Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc.

One year wings pin in gold finish. While it is possible that the previous pin was once also gold and lost its gold wash/fill due to wear, it shows no traces of gold, even under a loupe.

Three year wings pin in gold.

Five year pin with "Vought" in the winged emblem.
Five year pin with "Chance Vought" in the emblem. While it may not be obvious, "Chance" is in cursive. Note also that the wings themselves are compeletely different from the previous.
Another five year pin with a slightly different "Chance Vought" in the emblem.

Ten year pin.

Twenty year pin.

Thirty year pin with two white stones.
Five year pin. This is the only one of these I've ever seen, and I suspect most people wouldn't recognize this as a Vought service pin. While I have seen a similar logo used by some shipping/trucking company, note the "CV" logo is identical to that seen in the LTV pin below.

Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV)

Vought merged with Ling-Temco (James Ling, Texas Engineering and Manufacturing Company) Electronics in 1961. In 1992, LTV was broken into three parts: The Electrosystems division became E-Systems, the Vought Aircraft Division was sold to Northrop, and the missile group was acquired by Loral. In 1995, Raytheon acquired E-Systems.

Thanks to Bob Bardo for his help in identifying these pins.

Misc

Note the similarity of many of the above to an early Sikorsky service pin. Possibly due to both Vought's and Sikorsky's association with United Aircraft Corp.
